Folding, Storage and Transport: What to Measure Before BuyingUpdated 2 hours ago
Folding is useful, but it is not a substitute for checking dimensions and weight. Before buying a folding Ridewave vehicle, measure your actual space and think through the whole movement—from rolling it out of storage to lifting or securing it for transport.
Measure five things
1. The storage opening: shed door, hallway, lift, gate or apartment entrance width and height. 2. The storage footprint: the floor space available when the vehicle is folded and when it is unfolded for charging, maintenance or access. 3. The turning area: corners and tight spaces often matter more than a doorway measurement. 4. Vehicle loading space: boot opening, ute tray, caravan compartment or trailer, including the loading height. 5. Rack compatibility: permitted weight, wheelbase, tyre clearance, frame-contact points and whether the rack is rated for the product.
Always compare these measurements with the exact product listing. Product dimensions are more reliable than an estimate based on a photo.
Folding e-bike example: Miniwave
Miniwave folds to 98 × 52 × 73 cm. It weighs approximately 26.5–26.7 kg with battery, or about 23.5 kg with the battery removed. If a car boot is part of your plan, measure the boot opening and the lift height, then practise lifting a similar weight before buying.
For a bike carrier, check the carrier manufacturer’s rack rating and clearance rather than assuming any folding-bike rack is suitable. The Miniwave’s fully folded tyre centre-to-centre distance is approximately 20 cm, while the approximate folded width across the fork and derailleur is 44 cm; the published folded dimensions remain the general reference point.
Folding e-trikes: space-saving, not lightweight
All Ridewave e-trikes are foldable. Once unfolded and locked, they are designed for normal everyday use; you do not need to fold them after every ride.
However, a full-size folding e-trike still requires a realistic transport plan. Wallaby is approximately 38 kg with battery and Wallaby Plus approximately 47 kg with battery. An e-trike may need a ute, trailer, mobility-appropriate vehicle lift or another transport solution rather than a standard bicycle rack.
Do not carry an assembled e-bike or e-trike with a standard freight courier. If you collect an assembled vehicle, arrange collection in a suitable vehicle or use an approved third-party transport provider at your cost and risk.
Plan for charging and daily access too
The best storage area is dry, ventilated, accessible and away from exits or flammable materials. Avoid choosing a storage solution that requires lifting a heavy vehicle over a step every day. If you will remove the battery for charging, make sure the battery can be carried safely and stored in a suitable location.
Bring measurements to a test ride
Send us your measurements, vehicle type and photos of a rack or storage space before ordering. For a showroom visit, you can also bring a tape measure and check the folded product against your available space.
