How to Choose a Folding E-BikeUpdated 2 hours ago

A folding e-bike is useful when storage or transport is genuinely part of your routine. The key question is not simply “Does it fold?” but “Can I safely move, store and use it where I need to?”

Start with the real storage space

Measure the location where the bike will live: the car boot, caravan compartment, boat storage, apartment hallway or shed. Measure the opening as well as the empty space inside. Include room to turn the bike, remove the battery and lift it in or out.

The Ridewave Miniwave folds to 98 × 52 × 73 cm. That is the published folded size to compare against your available space. If you are using a vehicle rack, do not rely only on folded width: check the rack’s clearance around the fork, derailleur and tyre position before assuming it will fit.

Folding does not mean lightweight

The Miniwave weighs approximately 26.5 kg with the 10.4Ah battery or 26.7 kg with the 13.2Ah battery. Removing the battery reduces the weight to about 23.5 kg.

Before ordering, try lifting a similar weight from the expected height. Consider steps, a high SUV boot lip, uneven ground and whether someone will be available to help. If lifting is not practical, a ground-level storage solution, a ramp or a different transport method may be better than buying based on folding alone.

Fit and comfort matter more than compactness

The Miniwave has adjustable handlebars and seat. Its published rider-height range is 4'10" to 6'4", with a minimum seat height of about 76 cm. Riders around 5 feet can often place both feet flat at the lowest setting, but the best pedalling position is usually slightly higher, with the balls of the feet reaching the ground when stopped.

If you have a particular knee, hip, reach or confidence concern, a test ride is more useful than using height alone. Bring your usual footwear and practise stopping, starting, folding and unfolding.

Match the bike to the route

Miniwave uses 20 × 3-inch puncture-resistant fat tyres and front suspension, making it practical for everyday streets, paths and mixed urban surfaces. Its 250W high-torque rear hub motor is listed at 65 Nm, with current-based cadence sensing for a responsive, easy-to-use pedal-assist feel.

For range, choose battery capacity around the distance you will routinely ride—not just the longest possible trip. Miniwave is listed with pedal-assist range up to 110 km for 10.4Ah and 140 km for 13.2Ah, but hills, rider/load, wind, tyre pressure and assist level all reduce or extend real-world results.

Check cargo separately

Miniwave has a listed total load capacity of 155 kg and an included rear cargo rack rated up to 68 kg. The front cargo rack and basket, and the rear basket, are optional accessories. If you are considering a child seat, trailer or heavy cargo, check the accessory’s own limits and fitment instructions as well as the bike’s limits.
