Quokka Electric Trike Guide: Compact Upright Riding & Everyday CargoUpdated 10 hours ago

The Ridewave Quokka is a compact folding e-trike for riders who want an upright, practical vehicle for local trips, light errands and relaxed everyday use. Its 20 × 2.125-inch tyres aim for a manageable, less bulky feel than a larger fat-tyre trike, while its front basket and rear cargo rack give it useful everyday carrying options.

It is a good model to consider when you want a traditional upright posture and the stopped stability of three wheels, but do not need the large tyres or semi-recumbent position of some other Ridewave e-trikes.

Before you buy: 3 quick checks

  1. Measure parking and storage. Check doors, gates, shed access and the vehicle opening if you intend to transport the folded trike.
  2. Match the tyre to the route. Quokka’s slimmer 20 × 2.125-inch tyres are intended for practical everyday riding. Tell us if most of your route is loose gravel, grass or rough tracks so we can help compare models.
  3. Expect a trike to turn differently. It is stable when stopped, but you should slow before corners and turn smoothly rather than leaning like a two-wheel bike.

Who Quokka suits

Quokka may suit you if you:

  • want a compact, upright e-trike for local trips and relaxed rides;
  • value a low-step frame, wide comfort seat and adjustable backrest;
  • want front and rear carrying space for light daily items;
  • prefer front suspension over a fully rigid front-end ride; or
  • want a practical three-wheel layout without an oversized feel.

It may be less suitable if you need a lower semi-recumbent chair-style position, the widest tyre setup for regular rough or soft ground, or an ultra-light item to lift without help.

Upright comfort and front suspension

Quokka uses a conventional upright riding position. Its adjustable backrest and suspension seat post are designed to make routine riding more comfortable, while its adjustable front suspension can be opened or locked according to the surface and rider preference.

The front suspension helps take the edge off normal bumps and rough paths; it does not make the Quokka a technical off-road trike. Keep speed appropriate for the surface and lower it before driveways, uneven transitions and turns.

Everyday controls and low-speed confidence

Quokka includes a right-side half-twist start-up throttle, front and rear lights, brake light, indicators, parking/handle brakes and reverse. In its standard setup, the start-up throttle assists up to 6 km/h for controlled starts and low-speed manoeuvring.

Practise in a quiet, level area before regular use. Keep both hands clear of the brake levers while expecting assistance: brake activation is designed to cut motor assistance. Use the parking brake whenever you mount, dismount or load the trike on an incline.

Reverse is intended for careful parking manoeuvres. Check behind you first, use it at walking pace and keep clear of people, pets and obstacles. Riders should also check their own state or territory road rules before riding.

Cargo without overloading

Quokka has a front basket and a rear cargo basket, allowing you to separate small essentials from larger everyday items. The rear cargo basket is listed with up to 50 kg capacity. A capacity figure is not permission to carry any item in any way: keep the load low, centred and secured, and do not let straps or bags contact moving parts.

The front basket is convenient, but heavy front loads can affect steering feel. Start with lighter items and get familiar with the handling. Confirm compatibility with Ridewave before fitting a child seat, pet carrier or other third-party accessory.

Folding and transport planning

Quokka folds for storage and transport. This is valuable for garages, sheds and some vehicle setups, but the folding design does not eliminate the need for a realistic lifting plan. Measure the full path and check the capacity of any carrier or ramp against the model’s current listed weight.

For regular vehicle transport, it is better to choose a suitable e-trike carrier or ramp than to rely on strength alone. Remove the battery only when it helps with safe handling and store it securely.

Battery and routine care

Quokka is listed with a removable, lockable 48V 15Ah battery. Use only the supplied compatible charger. Charge it in a cool, dry space on a non-flammable surface, away from direct sun and combustible materials. Do not use equipment that is damaged, swollen, leaking or unusually hot.

Check tyre condition and pressure, brake response, lights and parking brake before regular rides. A qualified bicycle technician can handle normal brake, drivetrain and tyre servicing.

What to do next

View the Quokka product page for current details and availability. A test ride is useful if you are comparing Quokka’s compact upright setup with a larger Wallaby, Koala or semi-recumbent Platypus.

Book a test ride where available, or contact Ridewave with your height, route, storage space and cargo priorities.
