Battery Will Not Charge, Charges Slowly or Charger Light Stays GreenUpdated 34 minutes ago

If the battery on your Ridewave e-bike or e-trike will not charge, please do not open the battery, charger or charging port. The charger light alone does not confirm a fault: its normal behaviour can vary by charger model. The useful checks are whether power reaches the charger, whether the connection is secure, and what changes when it is connected to the battery.

Stop charging immediately if

Stop using the battery and charger if you notice swelling, leaking, cracks, unusual heat, a burning smell, smoke, sparks, water exposure or a damaged cable/plug. Keep the item away from flammable materials if it is safe to do so. Do not try another charger or repair the item yourself; submit a warranty claim and include photos.

1. Start with a safe charging environment

Let a battery that has been used, left in a hot car or brought in from very cold weather return to normal indoor temperature before charging. Charge in a dry, ventilated area on a hard surface, away from heat, direct sunlight and flammable materials.

Use only the Ridewave-supplied or approved charger for your exact model. A charger that fits the plug is not necessarily compatible. Do not use another vehicle’s charger, a third-party charger, a modified charger or an unknown spare battery for testing.

2. Check the power source and visible connections

With the battery and charger disconnected, check that:

1. The wall outlet is switched on and works with another suitable household device. 2. The charger cable, plug and charging port are dry, clean and free from visible damage. 3. The battery is seated correctly in the vehicle or connected according to your model’s normal charging method. 4. Each connection is fully inserted without being forced or held under tension.

Do not poke anything into the charging port, clean it with liquid, or use a multimeter unless Ridewave has specifically asked you to do so.

3. Observe what changes when charging begins

Connect the original charger in the normal order for your model, then note the charger indicator before and after it is connected to the battery. If your battery is removable, tell us whether the result is different when it is fitted to the vehicle versus removed, where your model allows this.

The following details help us identify the next step:

  • Does the charger show no light at all, or does its light remain unchanged after connecting the battery?
  • Does the display or battery indicator increase after a reasonable charge period?
  • Does charging stop early, or does the battery still have very low range after a full charge?
  • Was the battery stored unused or fully depleted for a long period?

Charging time is not the same across every Ridewave battery. It varies with battery capacity, starting charge level and temperature, so do not treat a slower charge alone as proof of a fault.

4. When to seek support

Please contact us if the original charger has no indicator from a known-working outlet, the charger indicator changes unexpectedly, the battery will not accept charge, or charging behaviour changed after impact or water exposure. A battery stored flat for a long period can also be affected by deep discharge and needs assessment rather than repeated charging attempts.

For a quick assessment, send:

  • your Ridewave model and order number;
  • a photo of the charger label and charging port;
  • a photo of any battery/display warning or error code; and
  • one short video showing the original charger connected to the wall and battery, including the charger indicator. Film only while stationary and when there are no heat or damage signs.
