Safely check a Ridewave battery that will not charge, seems slow to charge or has a charger light that does not change.

<p>A display that does not turn on is not automatically a faulty display. First identify whether it is <strong>completely blank</strong>, turns on but flickers, or turns on normally but the vehicle will not assist. These symptoms have different next steps. If the display is completely blank</h2><p>With the vehicle switched off:</p><p>1. Remove and refit the battery, making sure it is fully seated and locked where your model uses a lock. 2. Display Will Not Turn On, Flickers or Switches Off

Learn why even a light touch of a brake lever stops motor assistance and how to tell when a brake check may be needed.

<p>Ridewave <a href="https://ridewavebikes.com/collections/electric-bikes">e-bikes</a> and <a href="https://ridewavebikes.com/collections/electric-trikes">e-trikes</a> use a <strong>brake cut-off</strong> safety feature. The moment either brake lever is activated, the motor stops assisting. This prevents the motor from driving the vehicle while you are trying to slow down.</p><h2 id="a-slight-lever-movement-is-enough">A slight lever movement is enough</h2><p>You do not need to brake firmly for the cut-off to activate. A small pull, or even resting fingers on a lever, can be enough to put the lever into its activated position. The mechanical brakes may not feel as though they are slowing you down, but the motor will still stop assisting.</p><p>For this reason, do not pedal and brake at the same time. After braking, allow the lever to return fully before resuming pedal assistance.</p><h2 id="test-1-rule-out-hand-position">Test 1: rule out hand position</h2><p>In a flat, quiet area where you can safely control the vehicle:</p><p>1. Place your hands on the grips without resting fingers on either brake lever. 2. Pedal with both levers fully released. 3. Use this practical pre-ride and servicing checklist for Ridewave tyres, brakes, controls and drivetrain, and know when to stop riding.

<p>Routine servicing is not just about keeping your Ridewave <a href="https://ridewavebikes.com/collections/electric-bikes">e-bike</a> or <a href="https://ridewavebikes.com/collections/electric-trikes">e-trike</a> running smoothly. It catches normal early adjustments&#x2014;such as brake and gear cable settling&#x2014;before they become a safety issue. Use this check before regular rides and whenever something feels different.</p><h2 id="a-practical-pre-ride-check">A practical pre-ride check</h2><p>### Tyres and wheels</p><ul><li>Check each tyre is inflated to the pressure printed on <strong>that tyre&#x2019;s sidewall</strong>. Tyres, Brakes and Routine Servicing

Work out why your Ridewave battery range seems lower than expected and what details help us assess a possible battery issue.

<p>Battery range is an estimate, not a fixed distance. A Ridewave <a href="https://ridewavebikes.com/collections/electric-bikes">e-bike</a> or <a href="https://ridewavebikes.com/collections/electric-trikes">e-trike</a> can use noticeably more energy on hills, in cold weather, with higher assistance, heavier loads or low tyre pressure. Start with a controlled comparison before assuming that the battery has failed.</p><h2 id="first-check-the-conditions">First check the conditions</h2><p>Think about what changed on the rides with lower range:</p><ul><li>Were you using a higher pedal-assist level, more start/stop riding or steeper hills?</li><li>Was the vehicle carrying cargo, a passenger or a heavier rider load than usual?</li><li>Were the tyres at the pressure printed on their sidewalls?</li><li>Was it cold, windy or very hot?</li><li>Has the chain become dry, noisy or hard to pedal?</li></ul><p>These factors affect how much work the motor needs to do. Battery Range Is Lower Than Expected

Check the normal start-assist function, brake cut-off and display status if the throttle on your Ridewave does not respond.

<p>Ridewave throttles are configured for <strong>low-speed start assistance</strong>, up to approximately <strong>6 km/h</strong>, to help get moving from a standstill or during slow manoeuvring. They are not intended to provide ongoing throttle-only propulsion at road speed. If the throttle does not respond, check the conditions below before assuming there is a fault.</p><h2 id="1-check-the-starting-conditions">1. Check the starting conditions</h2><p>In a clear, flat area, switch the vehicle on normally and make sure the display has no warning or error code. With both brake levers fully released, try the throttle from a standstill or walking pace.</p><p>The throttle may not respond as expected if:</p><ul><li>the vehicle is already above its start-assist speed;</li><li>a brake lever is being touched, even lightly;</li><li>the display or battery has not completed its normal start-up; or</li><li>a start-up password is active and has not been entered.</li></ul><p>Do not try to change display settings, speed limits or wiring to make the throttle operate differently.</p><h2 id="2-rule-out-the-brake-cut-off">2. <p>Pedal assist is designed to respond to pedalling, the selected assistance level and the vehicle&#x2019;s safety systems. It may feel different after switching assist levels, starting from a standstill or riding on hills. Before treating it as a fault, separate a normal change in ride feel from assistance that is genuinely missing or unpredictable.</p><h2 id="start-with-the-assist-level-and-gears">Start with the assist level and gears</h2><p>Select a low or medium assistance level and choose an easier gear before starting on a flat, clear area. Higher assistance levels can feel more immediate or stronger, while lower levels require more rider effort. On hills, select a lower gear and a suitable assist level before the gradient becomes difficult.</p><p>If the vehicle is a Miniwave, its current-based cadence sensor is designed to feel smoother than a basic cadence sensor, but it will not respond exactly like a torque sensor. A brief start-up response difference can be normal.</p><h2 id="check-whether-the-brakes-are-active">Check whether the brakes are active</h2><p>Pedal assistance will not operate while either brake lever is activated. A light touch is enough to trigger the cut-off. Learn how to record a Ridewave display error code clearly and what information to send so support can identify the right next step.

<p>An error code is useful evidence, but it does not always identify one failed part by itself. Different Ridewave models can use different displays and controllers, so please do not search for an unrelated code table or change settings to clear the message. Record the code exactly as it appears.</p><h2 id="1-stop-and-assess-safety">1. Stop and assess safety</h2><p>Stop riding if the error affects motor assistance, brakes, steering, display control or lights. Stop using and charging the vehicle immediately if the code appears together with battery heat, swelling, a burning smell, water exposure or visible wiring damage.</p><p>If the vehicle still feels safe, switch it off using the normal controls. Do not repeatedly restart it or disconnect hidden cables in an attempt to clear the code.</p><h2 id="2-capture-the-code-properly">2. Capture the code properly</h2><p>Take a clear photo showing:</p><ul><li>the full display screen;</li><li>the complete code, symbol or warning text;</li><li>the battery level and assistance setting, where shown; and</li><li>the vehicle model if it is visible nearby.</li></ul><p>Then record a short video of the normal start-up attempt. Begin with the battery fitted, switch the vehicle on normally, and show whether the code appears immediately or only after a particular action. Never film while riding.</p><h2 id="3-note-what-happened-first">3. Note what happened first</h2><p>Tell us:</p><ul><li>whether the vehicle still turns on;</li><li>whether pedal assistance, throttle, lights or display controls still work;</li><li>whether the issue began after storage, charging, an impact, water exposure or transport;</li><li>whether the speed reading is normal; and</li><li>whether the code disappears after a normal switch-off and restart.</li></ul><p>Do not diagnose a code from the number alone or order a replacement part without Ridewave confirmation.</p><h2 id="4-send-the-report">4. How to Read and Report a Display Error Code

Identify whether your Ridewave has a normal gear adjustment need, a noisy drivetrain or a shifting issue that needs a bike-shop check.

<p>Gears can become hesitant or noisy as cables settle in, especially during the first few weeks of riding. Dirt, a dry chain, normal wear and a knock to the rear derailleur can also affect shifting. The pattern matters&#x2014;&#x201C;all gears are slow&#x201D; is different from &#x201C;the chain slips under load in one favourite gear.&#x201D;</p><h2 id="start-with-safe-riding-technique">Start with safe riding technique</h2><p>Shift while pedalling lightly. Ease pressure through the pedals briefly as you change gear; forcing a shift uphill under heavy load can create noise and poor engagement. Select an easier gear before a hill rather than changing under maximum effort.</p><p>With the vehicle stationary, look for obvious damage: a bent derailleur, loose-looking cable, damaged chain, or a derailleur close to the spokes. Do not ride if the derailleur is bent, the chain is damaged or the chain can contact the wheel/spokes.</p><h2 id="identify-the-symptom">Identify the symptom</h2><ul><li><strong>Slow or hesitant shifts across many gears:</strong> this can indicate normal cable settling, cable friction or indexing that needs adjustment.</li><li><strong>Clicking or rubbing in only one or two gears:</strong> note which gear combinations cause it; chain position and adjustment can matter.</li><li><strong>Chain jumps or slips only under strong pedal pressure:</strong> the chain, cassette/freewheel or both may be worn and need inspection.</li><li><strong>A new problem after a fall, transport or impact:</strong> the derailleur hanger or derailleur may be out of alignment.</li></ul><p>Keep the chain clean and lubricated with a suitable bicycle chain lubricant. Do not use heavy oil, spray lubricant onto brake rotors, or adjust derailleur limit screws unless you are confident with bicycle drivetrain work.</p><h2 id="what-a-bike-shop-should-check">What a bike shop should check</h2><p>A qualified bike shop can inspect cable tension, indexing, derailleur hanger alignment, chain wear, cassette/freewheel wear and the condition of the shifter/cable housing. Listen for a light intermittent rub versus a wheel that is difficult to turn. Check that the wheel is seated correctly and that the brake rotor is not visibly bent, loose or contaminated.</p><p>After rain, washing or storage, a short-lived squeal can occur as moisture clears. However, persistent squealing, a scraping sound, strong drag or vibration under braking should be inspected.</p><p>Do not touch a rotor immediately after riding&#x2014;it may be hot. Do not apply oil, spray lubricant, household cleaners or tyre products near brake pads or rotors.</p><h2 id="stop-riding-immediately-if">Stop riding immediately if</h2><p>Do not ride if:</p><ul><li>either brake lever pulls to the handlebar, feels spongy/weak or does not return normally;</li><li>the vehicle does not stop predictably;</li><li>the wheel is heavily dragging or locked;</li><li>you see a loose, damaged or bent rotor, leaking fluid or damaged brake cable; or</li><li>braking changed suddenly after a crash, hard knock or wheel removal.</li></ul><p>These are safety issues. Do not attempt to bleed brakes, straighten rotors, adjust hydraulic components or disconnect brake cut-off wiring at home.</p><h2 id="where-normal-service-may-help">Where normal service may help</h2><p>Routine brake-pad wear, cable adjustment, wheel seating and caliper alignment are normal bicycle-service items. Brakes Are Rubbing, Squealing or Feeling Weak

Check a Ridewave flat tyre or slow leak safely, identify damage that means do not ride, and prepare the right details for tyre service.

<p>A tyre that loses air slowly can be caused by a puncture, valve issue, tube damage or tyre damage. Do not keep riding on a soft or flat tyre: it can damage the tyre, tube, wheel and handling.</p><h2 id="first-identify-the-condition">First identify the condition</h2><p>Inflate the tyre only to the pressure printed on its sidewall. Then inspect the tread and sidewalls for glass, thorns, nails, cuts, bulges, exposed casing or a split near the rim. Check that the valve cap is present and that the valve itself is not visibly bent or damaged.</p><p>Do not pull embedded glass or a nail out until the tyre is ready for repair&#x2014;removing it can turn a slow leak into a flat. If you find an object, take a photo and arrange tyre service.</p><h2 id="do-not-ride-if">Do not ride if</h2><ul><li>the tyre is flat or repeatedly loses pressure;</li><li>the tyre has a cut, bulge, exposed threads/casing or sidewall damage;</li><li>the rim touches the ground or the wheel is visibly damaged; or</li><li>steering or wheel stability feels different.</li></ul><p>For an e-trike, check all three tyres. A sudden change after an impact, transport or first assembly also needs attention.</p><h2 id="what-you-can-check-without-adjustment">What you can check without adjustment</h2><p>With the vehicle switched off and stable:</p><ul><li>hold the front wheel between your knees and gently try to turn the handlebars;</li><li>gently hold the seat and check whether it moves or slips;</li><li>look for a clearly open quick-release, unlocked folding latch, loose accessory clamp or visible damage;</li><li>note whether the problem is side-to-side movement, up-and-down movement, a knock, or a part slipping.</li></ul><p>These observations help identify the right service. Do not tighten random bolts, use threadlockers, remove headset/stem parts or change factory clamp positions unless you are confident with the correct procedure and torque for your model.</p><h2 id="why-professional-checking-matters">Why professional checking matters</h2><p>Steering and seat clamps are safety-critical. Wipe moisture from the frame and exposed areas with a soft cloth, then leave it in a dry, ventilated place before charging. Keep the charging port and battery connection area dry. Do not charge outdoors in rain or on a wet floor.</p><h2 id="stop-using-and-charging-if">Stop using and charging if</h2><p>Stop using and charging the vehicle if it was submerged, pressure-washed, had water enter the charging port/battery area, or now shows a blank display, error code, unusual electrical behaviour, heat, smell, smoke or visible cable damage.</p><p>Do not try to &#x201C;dry it out&#x201D; by charging, taking the battery apart, using a heat gun or spraying contact cleaner into electrical parts. Close the latch using the normal procedure for your model, then confirm it is fully engaged before moving the vehicle.</p><p>Do not use straps, tape, bungee cords or an improvised lock to hold a folding joint closed. Do not ride with a partly closed latch.</p><h2 id="if-the-latch-is-stiff">If the latch is stiff</h2><p>Road dirt and normal use can make external moving parts feel stiff. Wipe away loose surface dirt with a dry cloth.
