Damaged, Wet or Overheating Battery: Immediate Safety StepsUpdated 3 hours ago

Treat a damaged lithium-ion battery as a safety issue. Stop using and charging it immediately if it is swollen, leaking, cracked, dented, punctured, unusually hot, smells unusual, emits vapour/smoke, has been in water or was exposed to fire.

What to do now

1. Switch the vehicle off if it is safe to do so. 2. Do not connect the charger or try to test the battery. 3. Keep people, pets and flammable materials away from the battery/vehicle. 4. If the battery is removable and cool to handle, remove it only using the normal release method. Do not handle a battery that is hot, smoking, leaking or venting. 5. Move away and call emergency services if there is smoke, fire, sparking or immediate danger.

Do not put the battery in household rubbish, recycling bins, water, a sealed container or a freezer. Do not attempt to open, repair, tape, crush or discharge it.

If the battery became wet

Do not charge a wet battery or use it to test the vehicle. Dry the outside gently only if it is cool and undamaged, then keep it in a dry, ventilated area away from living spaces and combustibles while you contact Ridewave. Water exposure can damage the battery even if it looks normal.

What to send us

When safe, take photos showing the whole battery, the affected area and any warning label. Tell us the model, order number, what happened (impact, water, heat or storage), whether it was charging, and whether there was heat, smell, noise or smoke.

Use the warranty claim form to send the information. We will advise the safest next step; do not post or transport a damaged battery without instructions.
