Throttle Is Not RespondingUpdated 3 hours ago
Ridewave throttles are configured for low-speed start assistance, up to approximately 6 km/h, to help get moving from a standstill or during slow manoeuvring. They are not intended to provide ongoing throttle-only propulsion at road speed. If the throttle does not respond, check the conditions below before assuming there is a fault.
1. Check the starting conditions
In a clear, flat area, switch the vehicle on normally and make sure the display has no warning or error code. With both brake levers fully released, try the throttle from a standstill or walking pace.
The throttle may not respond as expected if:
- the vehicle is already above its start-assist speed;
- a brake lever is being touched, even lightly;
- the display or battery has not completed its normal start-up; or
- a start-up password is active and has not been entered.
Do not try to change display settings, speed limits or wiring to make the throttle operate differently.
2. Rule out the brake cut-off
The motor stops assisting whenever either brake lever is activated. Resting a finger on a brake lever can be enough to trigger the cut-off, even when you do not feel meaningful braking.
Try again with both hands clear of the levers. If the rear brake-light response remains active while neither lever is pressed, arrange a brake check with a qualified bike shop. See our brake cut-off guide for a safe way to check this.
3. Compare throttle and pedal assistance
Note whether normal pedal assistance still works:
- Pedal assistance works, but start-assist throttle does not: send us a video of the display and throttle test while stationary.
- Neither pedal assistance nor throttle works: check for an error code and use our motor-assistance cut-out guide.
- The display is blank or switches off: use the display troubleshooting guide.
4. Check only visible parts
With the vehicle switched off, inspect the throttle housing and visible cable area for impact damage, a pinched cable or moisture. Do not disconnect plugs, open the throttle housing or repair wiring at home.
Need help?
Please submit a warranty claim with your model and order number, a photo of any error code, and a short stationary video showing the display and throttle test. If the controls or brakes do not feel safe, do not ride the vehicle. For general help, contact Ridewave.
