Display Will Not Turn On, Flickers or Switches OffUpdated 4 hours ago
A display that does not turn on is not automatically a faulty display. First identify whether it is completely blank, turns on but flickers, or turns on normally but the vehicle will not assist. These symptoms have different next steps. Do not open the display, battery, controller or wiring.
Stop using or charging first if
Stop using the vehicle and do not charge it if the issue began after water exposure, an impact, a damaged cable, a burning smell, unusual heat, sparks or visible damage. Take photos from a safe distance and submit a warranty claim.
1. If the display is completely blank
With the vehicle switched off:
1. Remove and refit the battery, making sure it is fully seated and locked where your model uses a lock. 2. Check the battery case, contacts and visible display cable area for moisture, dirt or damage. Do not clean contacts with liquid or insert tools into them. 3. Charge the battery with the Ridewave-supplied or approved charger in a dry area, then try the normal start-up process again. 4. Follow the exact start-up order in your model guide. Depending on the model, the battery may need to be switched on first and the display power button may need to be held briefly.
Do not repeatedly press buttons or change display settings at random. If a battery has been stored flat or unused for a long time, it may need assessment rather than repeated start attempts.
2. If the display lights up but flickers or turns off
Note when it happens. Does it occur as soon as the vehicle starts, only over bumps, after a period of riding, or when the handlebars turn? These details help separate a battery connection issue from a possible display or wiring problem.
Check only what is visible and safe:
- Is the battery locked in place and free from movement?
- Is the display casing or visible cable damaged, pinched or wet?
- Does the battery/charger show any warning lights or unusual behaviour?
Do not pull on cables, unplug hidden connectors or remove screws. If the display cuts out while riding, stop in a safe place rather than continuing to test it on the road.
3. If the display turns on but assistance does not work
This is usually not a “display will not turn on” problem. Check whether a warning or error code appears and take a photo. If the display asks for a start-up password, the display is operating but the electrical system will not activate until the correct password is entered.
For assistance that starts and stops while riding, use our motor-assistance cut-out guide. Do not attempt to bypass settings, speed limits or electrical controls.
4. Send the right evidence
If the display remains blank or behaves unexpectedly, please send:
- your Ridewave model and order number;
- a short video showing the normal switch-on attempt from battery to display;
- photos of the battery, charger indicator, display and any visible cable damage; and
- a clear photo of any error code or warning symbol.
Please also tell us whether the problem followed a long storage period, recent transport, impact or water exposure. Never film while riding.
