How to Fix Inaccurate Speed Readings - Outland XTUpdated a day ago

Watch this short customer-submitted video demonstrating the issue and how the speed reading appears when the sensor and magnet are not aligned properly:

⚠️ Warning: If the speed sensor is not detecting correctly, the motor may cut off unexpectedly, which can cause imbalance and pose a safety risk. Always ensure proper alignment before riding.

Component Overview

  • Speed Sensor: The black rectangular component mounted near your wheel (highlighted in blue in the reference image).

  • Magnet: The small silver piece attached to a wheel spoke. As the wheel spins, the magnet passes by the sensor and allows it to calculate your speed.

If the sensor and magnet are not properly aligned, the speed reading on your display may become inaccurate or fail entirely.

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Prepare your tools

  • Flathead screwdriver (small size, suitable for the magnet screw).

  • Stable surface to support your bike.

2. Identify the parts

  • Locate the speed sensor near the rear wheel (black component).

  • Find the magnet fixed to one of the wheel spokes (silver piece).

3. Adjust the magnet

  • Using the flathead screwdriver, gently loosen the small screw on the magnet.

  • Slide the magnet along the spoke until the centre of the magnet is aligned directly with the centre of the speed sensor.

  • Keep the distance between the magnet and sensor as close as possible without touching (around 3–5 mm).

  • Retighten the screw securely to hold the magnet in place.

4. Test the alignment

  • Place your bike on its kickstand so that the rear wheel is lifted off the ground.

  • Use the throttle to spin the rear wheel.

  • Observe the display screen to confirm the speed reading is now consistent and accurate.

Safety Notes

  • Do not ride the bike while the speed sensor is loose or untested.

  • Ensure the magnet screw is tightened firmly to prevent it from moving during rides.

  • Avoid using excess force when tightening to reduce risk of damaging the spoke.

If the Issue Persists

  • Recheck the alignment: even a small offset between the magnet and sensor can cause missed readings.

  • Inspect for dirt or debris: clean both the magnet and sensor with a soft cloth.

  • Ensure wiring to the speed sensor is not loose, kinked, or damaged.

If you still experience problems after these checks:

  1. Contact Ridewave Support with your bike’s model and serial number.

  2. Provide a brief description of the issue and (if possible) a photo of the sensor and magnet alignment.
